1. Drink Water Before You Eat

As surprising as it may sound, thirst can be mistakenfor hunger. So drink a glass of water before you eat. You might feel satisfied afterwards. If you are actually hungry and not thirsty, than drinking a glass of water will help you feel full faster, helping to prevent over-eating.

2. Put Your Fork Down

When you pause and put your fork down after each bite, it’s much less likely that you’ll miss your body’s cue telling your that you’re full. Eating slower also gives you an opportunity to savor your meal.

3. Smaller Plates, Don’t Eat Out Of the Bag

It’s all about healthy portion control. Typical dinner plates encourage us to put way too much food on them. Using slightly smaller plates, tricks us a little bit because we see a plate that’s full of food. However, since the portions are considerably smaller, we actually eat less than we would have otherwise.

4. Include a Little Fiber

Fiber is a natural diet aid because it helps digestion and leads to an overall felling of fullness.

  • Whole grain breads and cereals
  • Fresh fruit with the skin and the pulp
  • Root vegetables like carrots and turnips

5. Mini Meals to the Rescue

Eating several small meals throughout your day can help keep you hunger in check all day long. You don’t have the cyclic ups and downs of being hungry, then full. Just make sure that if you are eating more frequently, these meals are in fact small!
