You probably have a coffee maker at home in your Philadelphia apartment right now. It sits on your kitchen counter and goes unused, as you rush out the door in a hurry each morning. Yet, you still stop by your favorite neighborhood coffee shop for your daily cup of Joe. My suggestion, invest in a coffee press.
What is a coffee press?
It goes by a variety of names that you may be familiar with- the French press, a plunger, a press pot. It’s a device used to brew coffee, popularized by the French. When used with a quality coffee grinder that produces consistent grounds, it produces a stronger flavor. It’s usually a small glass or stainless steel canister with a specially designed lid. The lid has a plunger with a steel strainer attached to it.
How do you use it?
Start by adding coarsely, but evenly ground coffee beans in to the canister. Add hot water, just before boiling is perfect, and pour over the coffee grounds and allowed to steep. You can stir in your cream and sugar now also. Press the plunger all the way down to force the coffee grounds to the bottom. The press traps the grounds so you can pour off the strained coffee into your favorite mug.
4 Reasons The Coffee Press Is Fantastic
1. It’s Green
The only energy you’ll really need to use is boiling your water. The coffee press itself is completely manual. It’s more efficient then drip machines that are typically left on for much longer and unlike the conventional coffee maker, you don’t need to use disposable (ie non-reusable) accessories like coffee filters in the process.
2. Great For Coffee At Work
Instead of going by Starbucks twice a day for your coffee fix, keep a coffee press at your desk and your favorite ground beans in the fridge. The press is small enough to easily store in a desk drawer and since it requires no electricity you can have a great cup of coffee anytime of the day.
3. Can You Say Sample Size?
You can buy several different varieties in the trial sizes at your local grocery store for a different, flavorful blend every day of the week.
4. Use It For Your Favorite Teas Too!
You can use it for more than just gourmet coffee, use it to brew your favorite loose leaf teas.
